Vancouver. BC, February 1, 2014: Today Quester Tangent announced it has been awarded a contract to deliver fifty health monitoring units (HMU) for Vancouver SkyTrain Rail Vehicles. The new and improved units will replace the HMU’s that were first installed in 1995. Included are improvements in fault logging, configuration capabilities and advanced self-test functionality. The contract also calls for Quester to deliver test equipment that will help BCRTC improve operational efficiencies and vehicle service readiness. Dan Cumming, Director of Sales and Marketing for QT said “Having a rail transit customer close by provides the opportunity for a special partnership”. Cumming went on to note that strong communication over the past year between Quester and BCRTC has resulted in a high level of innovation without a high level of associated cost.

The story behind this new contract goes back a few years. Following a very successful integration of QT monitoring and diagnostic equipment into the Bombardier ART vehicles delivered to Vancouver for the 1986 world fair, QT was asked to deliver the same technologies to other buyers of the ART vehicle. One such customer was the Detroit People Mover. QT was asked to improve the health monitoring units as part of a contract in 2009. The increased capability was part of the impetus for BCRTC to look towards QT for this new delivery which is expected to be completed within 24 months.

British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC), on behalf of TransLink, maintains and operates two of the three SkyTrain lines in Metro Vancouver – the Expo Line and the Millennium Line – as well as the West Coast Express commuter rail service.
