Hockey at Oceanology International 2006

Making a Difference 10-1

Team UK Innovation comes in many forms at Quester Tangent. The recent 2006 Oceanology International Conference was host to a unique event, the brainchild of our Sales and Marketing Team. This was a challenge from Canadian exhibitors to their UK counterparts to an evening of floor hockey.

Team Canada On March 22, 2006, an impromptu “rink” was set up alongside the exhibition in space provided by Spearhead Marketing, with gear brought to the UK by a group of Exhibitors from Sidney, BC. The event was embraced with much enthusiasm and a crowd of approximately 100 exhibitors came out to support the teams. Needless to say, Canada were the victors by about 10-1, (was anyone really counting or scoring??), with the UK’s only “goal” coming when Charlie Foll, Atlantas Marine, picked up the “puck” and threw it into the net – we had to remind him that the game was hockey, not rugby!

Giving equipment to the school However, the true honours of battle went to George Green School, who walked away with a fist full of shirts, sticks and gear, donated to them at the conclusion of the match. They are worthy recipients indeed who make a difference to the lives of inner city children in London.

Special thanks for a most successful evening goes to the Excel Exhibition Centre for providing the venue and Spearhead Marketing for assistance with organizing the event. Our thanks go to Axys Environmental and Applied Microsystems Ltd of Sidney who so ably assisted, and also to Terry Sloane of PlanetOcean who took care of the UK end of things.

“We hope to make this a regular event at Oceanology”, said Bill Collins, VP Marine at Quester Tangent. “After all, Canada now has a title to defend.”
